What to do in Santiago De Compostela

Visit Santiago De Compostela during your cruise vacation

Santiago De Compostela is named after and owes its reputation to the legend of Saint James, one of the apostles of Jesus Christ. After he was decapitated in Palestine, his body was buried here, according to legend. At the site of his tomb was later built the cathedral, one of the main attractions of the city. It became one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Europe. Nowadays still many pilgrims make their way on foot or by bike to this particular town. The main symbol they wear is a scallop. Today you can still sense the magic-holy atmosphere and it is wonderful to walk around the historic center with its maze of streets, squares and beautiful buildings.
