What to do in Sorrento
Visit Sorrento during your cruise vacation
Sorrento lives mainly from tourism, wine and lemon plantations. It lies on a stone platform that rises meters above sea level. It was one of the first important tourist places in Italy. On a clear day, you have a beautiful view of the Bay of Naples and the island of Capri.
Contrary to what you often read, it is not the beaches of Sorrento that are interesting, but the town itself and the nearby fishing port of Marina Grande. There are no major landmarks, but it is the charm and coziness that makes the town so enjoyable. You will experience a typical southern Italian atmosphere.
Rent a scooter and experience the everyday life. Sorrento is also a good base to discovery the Amalfi Coast.
Coming from Naples or Capri, Sorrento is the first resort on the Amalfi coast. This small town bursts with many tourists, but it is well worth a visit.
If you only visit Sorrento, count on half a day. If you continue along the Amalfi Coast or combine your visit with Pompei, a full day will be necessary.
