What to do in Palermo

Visit Palermo during your cruise vacation

Palermo is a major university town and the capital of Sicily. It is located by the bay Cosca d'Oro.

The history of the town dates back to the 8th century BC. Palermo had many different rulers, all leaving their own cultural and political mark on the capital. Many of these Arab, Norman, Roman, and Byzantine influences can still be found in the churches, squares, and buildings Palermo has to offer.

The city is often mentioned at the same time as Mafia. During the difficult reconstruction after the Second World War, the Mafia in Palermo gained more and more power leading to the brutal murder of the judges Falcone and Borsellino.

In recent years, peace returned and the power of the Mafia was restricted. Today, Palermo is a city of contrasts. You can immerse yourself in a historical and enjoy a typical Mediterranean atmosphere.
