What to do in Toulon

Visit Toulon during your cruise vacation

Due to its strategic location, Toulon is an important military port in France. It was often used during wars. During World War II, the French sunk their own fleet to prevent it from falling into German hands.

Toulon is the capital of the department of Var and offers various excursions in the Provence and along the Côte d'Azur. The bay and the peninsula of Saint-Mandrier provide spectacular views. North of the Boulevard de Strasbourg, the new districts and the modern part of the city can be found. In the South, near the harbor, is the historic center with its sights, narrow streets, and market squares.

Practical info

Many cruise passengers use Toulon as a base for a trip to Provence (Marseille, Aix-en-Provence, Cassis, ...) or along the French Riviera (St Tropez, Cannes, ...). However, Toulon itself is worth a visit, though it is certainly not a collection of highlights. Allow 2-3 hours to explore the city.
