Marseille has a large cruise port with various cruise terminals and piers. These are located at Môle Leon Gourret (port No. 4), the industrial area of the port. Your cruise ship will dock at about 8-10 kilometers from Vieux Port, the historic center of Marseille, where most  sights can be found. The the port is extremely busy. Many trucks rush around. Yet, it is possible to leave the port on foot and use public transportation to the city center.

Only smaller vessels (<200 meters) can dock closer to the city in La Joliette. Cruise passengers often choose for an excursion outside Marseilles to places like Aix-En-Provence, Arles or Avignon.

Getting around in Marseille

If you dock at Môle Leon Gourret (port No. 4) in the industrial area of the port, it is still about 8 to 10 kilometers to the center of Marseille. You can use the shuttle bus or take a taxi. A very good and cheap alternative is the public bus.

If you moor at La Joliette (sometimes the case with smaller cruise ships <200 m), then you are not too far from Vieux Port and the historic center. You can easily walk there or take the public bus.

For shore excursions outside Marseille to places like Avignon, Aix-En-Provence and Arles, the train from Gare Saint-Charles is a very good transportation option.

Shore excursions around Marseille

Marseille itself is a beautiful city where you can easily spend the whole day. The main sights are located in and around the old harbor, Vieux Port.

Many cruise passengers however opt for an inland excursion. Favorites are Avignon with its Palais des Papes and the bridge from the famous children song. Arles with its Greco-Roman roots and monuments. Aix-En-Provence with the beautiful Cours Mirabeau in the heart of Provence.
