Highlights of Kefalonia
This tour has everything. We will explore the caves of both Drogarati and Melissani, places of outstanding natural beauty. Drogarati Cave was discovered 300 years ago and was opened to the public in 1963. Within Melissani cave, based in the village of Karavomylos, boats await to row you around the underground lake. Caves are very impressive with remarkable formations of stalactites.
We will continue to the Monastery of Saint Gerasimos, the resting place of the mummified remains of the patron saint of the island. It is a sacred place for every citizen of Kefalonia. The relics of the Saint are kept in a glass case which is placed above the Saint’s tomb. Saint Gerasimos is believed by natives of Kefalonia to protect them and heal them of illness. Many natives of the island name their children after Saint Gerasimos as a tribute to the saint who protects them.
Also, we will taste some of the best wines on the island at the local cooperative.
