Visit Dubrovnik during your cruise vacation
With reason Dubrovnik is also known as the 'Pearl of the Adriatic'. The completely walled city, which consists of forts, squares, picturesque streets and fountains is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The city was founded in the 7th century and has a very eventful history. In 1667 the town was destroyed by an earthquake. Some palaces and monasteries were spared. After the First World Dubrovnik was part of Yugoslavia and during the Croatian War of Independence the old town was not spared. It was heavily besieged from the mountains.
Today you can hardly believe what happened here. Most of the buildings have been restored and the hospitality of the Croats makes you forget the past.
Dubrovnik is definitely a beautiful city. Especially the historical center with its many highlights is definitely worth a visit. It takes a few hours to half a day to explore the city.
TIP: Take a cable car to Mount Srd. From there you have a beautiful view over the city and the bay.
