What to do in Bruges
Visit Bruges during your cruise vacation
Bruges is a famous tourist attraction and is also called "the Venice of the North" by the canals, bridges, alleys and medieval buildings. Like Venice it is a very romantic city. The history goes back to the 2nd century AD. The city of Bruges always played an important economic role, also thanks to the seaport of Zeebrugge. In the 14th century it grew into a metropolis during the Golden Age. Unfortunately the city got in decline and afterwards it was dominated by Spanish, French, Austrians and Dutch. Today, Bruges sometimes resembles a large open-air museum where you can admire it's beautiful architecture. The medieval city center is listed as UNESCO World Heritage Site. In addition to beer and chocolate Bruges is known for the beautiful lace.
